I know that D-Link is a good brand. But this is not a good router.Setup was simple, and the router has a lot of good settings options. It does work, however, it tends to ‘bog down’ quite often, resulting in about 60 seconds or so when I simply cannot access the internet, because the router is sorting something out. I have a network monitor, and I could see when this happened, as no matter what site I tried to access, all I saw was the router’s IP address. Over, and over, and over, and over. This happened several times a session, and started to drive me nuts. Resetting the router, or turning it on/off, did not help. But I dealt with it, figuring at least it worked. That is, until I saved some money and bought an also cheap, also bottom of the line, Netgear router. Wow, the speed increase I experienced with the new Netgear compared to the old D-Link really put me in my place. I had no idea what a piece of junk the D-Link really was, until I saw that I’d been getting my internet – when I got it – at about 1/2 the actual speed. Not to mention, the Netgear never bogs down.I give it two stars because it works, at least, had easy setup and good features that are easy to understand for a newbie in networking like me. However, unless you simply don’t have two pennies to rub together, DON’T get this router.I had it on Amazon to resell for a few days, then decided this wasn’t something I was going to foist on anyone. It’s not even worth it. I’m giving it to a friend for free, only because he has NO router, with a stern warning to replace it as soon as funds allow.Do yourself a favor, buy something else.(The Netgear router I got was the NETGEAR WNR2000 Wireless-N Router. Same price, FAR better performance).Read more 2 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseBig D5.0 out of 5 starsWorks with my Mac Airport & Netflix Blu-ray network device. Easy setup!October 17, 2009Verified PurchaseBeing a Mac guy I first read some reviews here to make sure this router would work with my Mac. Some nice kind people here posted special instructions for Mac setup so I thought I would give it a try. After getting the unit I realized that the posted instructions I saw did not mention using a Mac AirPort (wireless) connection to my Mac – they detailed a wired connection. Whoops! I thought I might have a hassle on my hands.Tonight after going outside to make sure the planets were in alignment I figured I would just give it a try. I used the CD and instruction sheet as coasters for my favorite beverages then I powered down my Comcast cable modem and AirPort device. Then I connected the cable modem internet connection to this router, followed by the AirPort connection and the Blu-ray unit’s connection. Then I powered up everything at the same time. When I checked my Mac connection to the Internet I was connected, and I swear the connection seemed faster. Then I checked my Blu-ray unit and could connect to the Internet. I synced up my Netflix (to activate streaming videos) and it all worked perfect.I am very impressed with the ease of setup and compatibility, to say the least. I will not be hooking up any more devices this weekend, so as not to anger the electronic gods. At some point I will add my printer to the router so I can print wirelessly.Hope your experiences go as smooth.Update: Added the printer and it went smooth.Note: There was a very good rebate offer that still allowed free shipping when I purchased this unit but Amazon edited the details out of my original review.Read more 2 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abusePeter DeGroot2.0 out of 5 starsPiece of Cake for Mac Users TooMay 21, 2008Verified PurchaseUPDATE- Sept. 2010:This wired ethernet router worked well for a little over 2 years, then started ever more frequent periods of slow or failed web page loading. A lot of other people have had similar problems. Check in these reviews and Google ‘D-Link 2310 slow web page load’ for numerous examples. When I contacted D-Link support, they failed to acknowledge the problem (despite many reports of it in their own D-Link forum). I solved the problem by replacing it with a TRENDnet 4-Port Broadband Router TW100-S4W1CA (Blue), available from Amazon for about $25. So far it’s great, but I’m going to hold off a while on a review of it.———–Despite the Windows-centric description and specs, this router works very well with my all-Mac network and was extremely easy to set up. Unless you also have Windows boxes to connect, you can ignore the enclosed CD with the setup Wizard. (It does have the User Manual in .pdf format, but you can also download this from the D-link site.) There are simple directions in the box for connecting the router via ethernet cable to your Cable/DSL modem and the other network computers. After that, just go to your Mac(s), open System Preferences/Network. Click on Built-in Ethernet, Configure Using DHCP and you are done. Creating a mixed wireless/ethernet network was as simple as connecting my Airport Express by ethernet cable to one of the D-Link router ports. If you haven’t already configured your Airport network you can do so with Airport Utility. An excellent value for the price. In case anyone is interested, there are a couple of reasons I got a wired router in this wireless world:1. My Airport Express network is the slower 811.g version. I have a new iMac with a faster 811.n card and two older macs with 811.g. If I put them all on my current wireless network, even the new iMac connects at 811.g speed. By connecting my new Mac via ethernet and the older ones by WiFi, I get a faster internet connection with the new one. But why not just buy an 811.n wireless router like the new Airport Express or Extreme? Two reasons: $$$ and I’d still have to set up two separate networks, 811.g and 811.n to avoid slowing the .n network down by connecting .g devices to it.2. I just got a Linksys CIT-400 internet phone (uses Skype) that only connects via ethernet, so I needed a mixed Ethernet/WiFi network.Read more 2 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseSee all 203 reviewsWrite a customer review What other items do customers buy after viewing this item?TRENDnet 4-Port Broadband Router, 4 x 10/100 ports, Instant Recognizing, Plug & Play, Firewall Protection, TW100-S4W1CA3.8 out of 5 stars310$16.14TP-Link SafeStream TL-R600VPN Gigabit Broadband Desktop VPN Router, 680M NAT throughput, 20k Concurrent Sessions, 20 IPSec VPN Tunnels, VLAN, Multi-NAT, 4 WAN Load balance or auto failover3.4 out of 5 stars427$56.91 Pages with related products.
